CM attends video conference on natural farming

Imphal, Oct 6 (DIPR): Chief Minister N Biren Singh attended a video conference chaired by Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah on Natural Farming and Digital Agriculture from the Cabinet Hall, Chief Minister’s Secretariat, today.
Presenting his speech during the conference, N Biren highlighted steps taken up by the State and the progress made regarding natural farming and digital agriculture.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the State has already initiated a process for digitization of Agriculture. He said that due preparation to start Agriculture Census of 2021-22 is complete and it will be initiated at the earliest.
Door to door enquiry will be conducted using tablets/smart phones to collect all relevant information of farmers and the same exercise is targeted for completion by December this year, the Chief Minister said.
Regarding natural farming in the State, the Chief Minister said that natural farming in the State has improved significantly. “Considering the ill-effects of the chemical fertilizers, we are encouraging natural and organic farming”, the Chief Minister said adding that locations where cattle are utilized in farming have been identified at four districts to set up GOVAR-DHAN plants on pilot basis.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that earlier only around 5000 hectares of land were utilized for organic farming but the area has increased to 37,000 hectares.
Following brief speeches from the participating Chief Ministers and State Agriculture Ministers, the video conference concluded with an address from Amit Shah.
Agriculture Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh, Horticulture & Soil Conservation Minister Letpao Haokip, Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary P Vaiphei, Commissioner M Joy Singh, officials of both Agriculture and Horticulture and Soil Conservation departments were also present during the video conference.
