2nd NE Games : Manipur sweep 24 medals on Day 3

IMPHAL, Nov 12 : Manipur collected a bulk of 24 medals, 8 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze medals on Day 3 of the ongoing 2nd North East Olympic Games to take the tally to 14 gold, 14 silver and 13 bronze medals.
State taekwondo players shone today with a haul of 5 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. Winning gold medals today in different weight categories are Martina Wahengbam (42 kg), Irom Bijaya (44 kg), Priyadarshini Mayengbam (46 kg), Salam Charlie (65 kg) and Arubam Kishan Singh (55 kg).
Nongthombam Sania won the only silver medal in the 49 kg event as RK Leokanta (45kg) and Laishangbam Tomthinnganba (51 kg) settled for the bronze medals.
In cycling, Th Tennyson won a gold medal in the Elite men's 1 km Downhill event as P Priya Devi won a silver medal in the women's 13.4 km road race event.
H Urbashi also won a bronze medal in the 13.4 km road race event while Ksh Jack Singh took the Elite Men's 1 km Down Hill bronze.
Archery : Archers  win 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals
The third day of the competition saw Sh Ramakanta add gold medal to Manipur's tally securing 696 points for the top place in the 50+50 m Compound Division event for men. Manipur's M Bikram finished second in the same event with 691 points to settle for the silver medal.
In the women's 50+50 m Compound Division event for women, M Rupan won silver with 673 points and Ksh Mangalsana finished third to win the bronze medal with 653 points.
Swimming : Swimmers win 8 medals
State swimmers also racked up 8 medals on third day of the zonal games with Sarungbam Athouba Meitei securing the only gold medal by finishing first in the 50 m backstroke event with a time of 28.63 seconds.
Ningombam Jeson who won a gold medal in the 50 breaststroke event yesterday bagged a silver medal in the 100 m event taking 1:9.50 (1 minute 9.50 seconds). Laikhuram Ricky Singh won the bronze with a time of 1:10.43.
S Athouba along with S Punshiba, Ksh Debraj and N Jeson also picked up a silver medal finishing the 4x50 m Medley Relay event in 1:54.60.
Laitonjam Jessica Chanu also won Manipur a silver medal finishing second in the women's 50 m backstroke event with a time of 35.47 seconds before winning another silver medal in the 4x50 m Medley Relay event along with K Kevashri, Dekalu Th Panmei and Siddhika Huidrom by completing the course in 2 minutes 24.22 seconds.
Sandham Punshiba bagged a bronze medal in the men's 100 m butterfly event with a time of 1:1.98 before Kangabam Kevshri sealed another bronze medal in the 100 m breaststroke event with a time of 1:31.47.
