ATM break in

IMPHAL, Nov 14: A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly breaking into an ATM booth located near Manipur University main gate yesterday.
While the arrested youth has been identified as Phundreimayum Najir Khan of Lilong Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi, police are yet to arrest another involved in the crime.
The incident happened at around 4.30 am yesterday.
Singjamei police had received information about the break in at the SBI ATM booth from Imphal West police control room. As the police rushed in and started searching for suspects, they received CCTV footage from an SBI official.
Based on the CCTV footage, police started looking for suspects having matching descriptions. The per- sonnel then spotted a suspect matching the description driving a two wheeler Vespa without registration number at Kakwa Bazar.
He was detained and on spot verification, he was identified as Phundreimayum Najir Khan (24) of Lilong Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi. From his possession, police seized some tools suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime.
Police then arrested and produced him before the Duty Magistrate Imphal West.
In the Court of the Duty Magistrate, the Investigating Officer submitted that during preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to the charges levelled against him and allegedly disclosed that he committed the crime with another associate.
They first allegedly attempted to break-in the SBI ATM booth located at Singjamei Thokchom Leikai at around 1.20 am yesterday. As they couldn’t break-in, they then decided to break-in at the SBI ATM booth located near the Manipur University main gate.
The Investigating Officer prayed the Court to remand him for 5 days and effect the arrest of his associate.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the Investigating Officer, remanded the accused to 4 days police custody till November 16 for further investigation of the case.
