MANAS Cell launched

IMPHAL, Nov 14 (DIPR): Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh has launched State Tele MANAS Cell, as a part of the National Tele Mental Health Program today.
Tele MANAS stands for Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States. It aims to provide free tele-mental health services all over the country round the clock, particularly catering to people in remote or under-served areas.
The launch function was held at Dr Kamal Hall, Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, Lamphelpat.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh said that the necessity of mental health care has increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Awareness on mental health care has become highly necessary nowadays. Opening of the Tele MANAS Cell will help here, he added.
He said that digitization of health care services will help to streamline and improve the health care service in the State. The fast growing Tele Health Care service has also made it easy for people to have access to health check-up and treatment, the Minister added.
Dr Ranjan said, “COVID-19 has affected the world socially and economically. It has impacted the mental health of thousands. We need to create an atmosphere where there is no stress. Stress may lead some to develop and have suicide tendencies.”
Director Health Services Manipur Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, Director RIMS Imphal Dr L Ranjit, Director NHM Manipur Dr Somorjit Ningombam, Head of Department of Psychiatry RIMS Imphal Prof RK Lenin also graced the occasion as president and guests of honor respectively.
Officials and staff of Medical Directorate and NHM, Manipur, doctors and others also attended the occasion.
