Children’s Day

IMPHAL, Nov 14: Pointing out that the future of Manipur lies in the hands of children, Additional Chief Secretary P Vaiphei has highlighted the significance of Children’s Day.
A State level Children’s Day function was held at the Iboyaima Shumang Leela Sanglen today under the aegis of the Social Welfare Department and P Vaiphei graced the function as chief guest.
Speaking at the gathering, the Additional Chief Secretary recalled his childhood days and how he went to school most enthusiastically on November 14 to attend the Children’s Day celebration.
The future of Manipur lies in the hands of children. If the State should achieve rapid progress, all children must be groomed properly so that all of them become resourceful citizens, P Vaiphei said.
He said that installation of modern infrastructure alone cannot bring development. What is more important is the development of human resources, he asserted.
He then exhorted all children to give full attention to their studies and make meaningful contributions towards building a glorious Manipur.
Social Welfare Department is a very important department for it deals with people of all ages starting from fetuses to aged persons including juvenile delinquents, drug abusers, differently abled persons and destitute people, he said.
Addressing differently abled persons, the Additional Chief Secretary said that they should never harbour any inferiority complex rather they should work harder in their chosen fields.
Saying that the Social Welfare Department has been implementing several welfare schemes for differently abled persons, P Vaiphei maintained that the department has its door wide open if any one of them has any grievance.
He also conveyed best wishes to all the people, particularly children on Children's Day.
Social Welfare Joint Secretary Laltanpui Vanchong and Joint Director Bantee Singh Konthoujam attended the function as guest of honour and president respectively.
The presidium members later presented gifts to children from different institutions.
The gathering was made lively with dance and music items presented by children.
