Another 2021 ambush accused arrested

IMPHAL, Nov 16 : A team of NIA Imphal Branch arrested another active member of Manipur Naga Peoples' front (MNPF) carrying Rs four lakh reward for his alleged involvement in the November 13, 2021 ambush which killed a Commanding  Officer of 46 Assam Rifles along with his wife and son and troops and injuring some other personnel at Sialsih Village in Churachandpur from Lamlong Bazar areas last night.
Accused Maharing Hungyo @ Achan (21), s/o Surrender Hungyo of New Canaan Village Ukhrul was produced before the Special Court NIA Manipur today  along with a prayer to send him to police custody remand by NIA Imphal Branch.
The Chief Investigating Officer of NIA through Special PP NIA submitted that NIA headquarters New Delhi re-registered the case filed at Singngat police station as per the directive issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on November 26 last year.
Reportedly, the accused has admitted to the charges levelled against him in the initial stage of the examination.
It was also submitted that certain facts were revealed during the initial examination but 'some facts are yet to be disclosed by the accused.'
"Taking into consideration the seriousness and the gravity of the offence and to unearth the deep element of larger conspiracy, the accused needs to be sent to police custody," it said.
The Court of perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the Special PP remanded the accused to 10 days police custody till November 25.
Self styled corporal of the same outfit was also remanded to judicial custody by the same Court yesterday in connection with same case while two other accused Khamliankhup (58), s/o (L) Lamchinthang and his son Thangkhualian (28) of Jangnuam Village, Singngat Sub Division were also arrested in May 2022 by NIA Imphal Branch.
