Govt envisages Nilakuthi Urban Haat as hub of handloom and handicraft

IMPHAL, Nov 16 : Lamlai AC MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha has categorically stated that the Government is preparing to make the Urban Haat at Nilakuthi as a hub of handloom and handicraft items.
The MLA is also the Chairman of Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Limited (MHHDCL).
Attending the inaugural programme of the 15 day Handloom and Handicraft Expo 2022  underway at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi, Kh Ibomcha continued that the venue of the expo is empty most of the time though Urban Haats are supposed to be busy all the time.
Stating that MANITEX 2022 was bigger and better than previous editions, the MLA maintained that the popularity of the Urban Haat at Nilakuthi is growing due to holding of many significant events.
Saying that the venue will hold many programmes during the Sangai Festival 2022, Kh Ibomcha maintained that another mela will begin as soon as the current expo ends.
There is a plan to develop the office complex of MHHDCL at Paona Keithel as the headquarters of "our handloom and handicraft," the MLA informed and sought cooperation from all stakeholders concerned and the people.
Director of Handloom & Textiles L Lamlee Kamei and Managing Director of MHHDCL E Jeeten also  attended the programme.
