Imphal, Nov 16 : Volunteers of Consumers’ Club, Manipur (CCM) rounded up two non Manipuris for selling 'fake' detergent brought from Kolkata as a branded product today.
The two non Manipuris have been identified as Sanjoy Roy and Santosh, both from West Bengal.
Speaking to media persons in this regard at its office at Paona Keithel today, CCM president Phulchand Sharma said that the consignment of detergent was brought in a bus which provides  Imphal-Guwahati service.
Saying that a complaint was lodged to CCM about the selling of a shoddy detergent powder with Surf Excel label in the State, he  said that the members of the club swung into action based on a specific input and seized the shoddy detergent while unloading from a bus at Kekrupat areas.
The detergent was brought in a passenger bus coming from Guwahati, he added.
Further stating that the duplicate detergent comes with all the  packaging and label of Surf Excel, Phulchand said that the two non locals have already sold the detergent to many wholesale shops in different districts of Manipur.
The CCM president also said that the two non locals launched a scheme of providing a 36 inch Sony TV to wholesalers who  bought the detergent in huge quantities (Rs 40,000 approx.).
It has been confirmed that the fake detergent was sourced from Kolkata, he said and added that the club will carry out a test to find out the ingredients of the fake detergent.
Saying that many more fake items might be circulating in the State, he appealed to the people to be very careful while procuring packaged goods.
