IMPHAL, Nov 16 : As the much anticipated Sangai Festival gets closer, the State police continue to carry out cordon and search operations at different locations to ensure smooth conduct of the tourism festival.
Today, Imphal West and Bishnupur commando conducted house to house search operations at localities which fall under their jurisdiction and detained 11 persons for verification.
In Imphal West, a search operation was carried out at Takhel Leikai, Thingom Leikai, Sega Road, Keishampat Leimajam Leikai and Kurou Makhong this morning and about 150 houses were searched. More than 250 individuals were verified.
No one was picked up during the operation.
Later in the evening, the same commando team carried out a surprise cordon and search operation at Pratap crossing area of Paona Keithel side and verified about 150 individuals.
Eight persons who failed to produce identity cards were detained and handed over to City police for verification.
On the other hand, a team of Bishnupur commando carried out a search operation in the Kairenphabi area and verified more than 90 persons.
The same team of commando also carried out a surprise cordon and search operation at Nambol Bazar area, during which more than 70 persons were verified while three others were detained.
The detainees were handed over to Nambol police station for verification.
