IMPHAL, Nov 17: Manipur Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board Chairperson K Saratkumar has asserted that the Labour Department is making efforts to give out benefits to students before Christmas.
The Chairperson made the statement during a press conference held at his office at New Secretariat today in response to the claim made by Valley and Hill Union that the Labour Department has not provided student benefits in a timely manner.
Calling the allegation false and baseless, he claimed that 'the Valley and Hill Union is an unregistered organisation which has not received any official Government recognition'.
He added that 'the Valley and Hill Union did not submit any written complaint to the Labour Department before going to the media with their grievances'.
In connection with card renewal, he stated that as per rules and regulations, the process is carried out after completion of one year. The Department does not need to make a separate announcement in this regard, he maintained.
Further he stated that the department is currently checking to see if students have renewed their labour cards, if it has been linked to their Aadhar cards and checking if they are eligible for the benefits provided.
The Chairperson asserted that as per labour laws, the beneficiaries will receive the benefits in their accounts through DBT.
He assured that the beneficiaries will receive the benefits after the monitoring process is complete, hopefully before the arrival of Christmas.
