Register to be included in electoral rolls : CEO

IMPHAL, Nov 17: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajesh Agrawal has reiterated that persons who will be attaining the age of 18 on and between January 1, 2023 and October 1, 2023 are eligible for registration in the electoral rolls.
He was speaking at the State level consultative programme on Electoral Literacy Club held at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong today. The programme was organised by the CEO Manipur.
CEO Rajesh Agrawal said Manipur has around 500 Electoral Literacy Clubs in schools and colleges. These clubs are particularly for students of Class XI to XII and undergraduates. The aim of these clubs is to bring electoral literacy among the young students. Through these clubs, the Election Commission of India is aiming to make the young students, informed and empowered voters when they become eligible electors, he said.
Election is the most important process for a democracy. As such it is important to bring about electoral literacy among the voters. It is highly necessary that the people are educated about elections and their duties as electors, he said.
The CEO informed that those who will be attaining the age of 18 during January 1, 2023 to October 1, 2023 may register to become voters on January 1, 2023, April 1, 2023, July 1, 2023 and October 1, 2023.
It may be mentioned that a special summary revision of draft photo electoral rolls is underway now allowing voters to make necessary corrections and rectifications.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer N Praveen Singh, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ramananda Nongmeikapam, Joint Chief Electoral officer (II) and State Nodal officer SVEEP Md S Daulat Khan, Director Education (S) L Nandakumar Singh and Joint Secretary (Election) K Bono Singh were present at the press meet.
Presentations were also given on Electoral Literacy Club.
