Further probe unearths 1.8 Kg of drugs

IMPHAL, Nov 17: Further investigation into a recent arrest of two peddlers along with  brown sugar worth lakhs has led to recovery of over 1.8 kilograms of the same drug at Singngat today.
Singngat police discovered the drugs hidden in a forest near Lancha village during a search operation.
Notably, this was a follow up operation after the November 9 seizure of 3.564 kilograms of brown sugar from two peddlers from New Teikot village along Singngat-Suankuang road under Churachandpur district.
The two arrested were identified as Ngamkholal Guite (40) of Mongjang village and Mangmuanlian Hangluah (46) of Buangmun village, Singngat in Churachandpur.
Following reliable inputs and statements of the arrested peddlers, Singngat police led by its Officer in-Charge, Inspector Thangpu Tonsing launched a search operation in areas suspected to have been used by peddlers who had escaped police earlier.
During the search at Lancha village and adjoining areas, the police team found a gunny bag in bushes in a forest. Upon inspecting the bag in presence of Singngat Sub Divisional Magistrate, the personnel found 165 soap cases containing brown sugar weighing 1.884 kilograms.
The drugs were seized in the presence of the Sub Divisional Magistrate.
With this, the total seizure in the case is 5.448 kilograms of brown sugar.
Further investigation is on to arrest all involved in the case, said Singngat police.
