Sports can unite people and communities : Chief Minister

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that sports can unite people and communities as it has no religion, caste and creed. This was stated by him at the closing ceremony of the 13th Jadonang Memorial Football Tournament held at Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak Imphal today.
Addressing the gathering, N Biren Singh said, "We must pay our respect to our great forefathers who had sacrificed their lives for the country and should not forget their selfless sacrifices. Recognizing the valour of Rani Gaidinliu, the Centre, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has commissioned a ship named-Rani Gaidinliu."
The State Government is making its efforts towards developing memorial parks in the name of State's freedom fighters, he added.
The Chief Minister further stated that the present Government is committed to bring inclusive development in the State and has undertaken many development works across the State. Mentioning that there is a strong sports movement in the State, N Biren said that the Government is developing Astroturf football grounds in Tamenglong, 21 playgrounds in Tamei area, 3 grounds in Oklong, Senapati among others.
Minister for Tribal Affairs and Hills Letpao Haokip, Minister for Water Resources Awangbow Newmai, Minister for Social Welfare Heikham Dingo, Chairman Hill Areas Committee Dinganglung Gangmei, MLAs Khumukcham Joykishan, Janghemlung Panmei and others were present during the function.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also inspected the construction work of Amusement Work at Thenggu Chingjin.
