U-16 and U-18 AITA Championship SeriesShanker Heisnam outlasts Shaurya to reach U-18 boys semis

IMPHAL, Nov 7 : Shanker Heisnam who recently won U-16 singles and doubles title in the IDTA organised CS7 U-14 and U-16 tennis tournament progressed into the U-18 boys singles semi-finals of the AITA Junior Tour hosted by Imphal District Tennis Association at its Lamphel Court.
Shanker eased to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Shaurya Kumar of Maharashtra in a quarter final match to seal the semi-final ticket today.
Entering the semi-final of the same competition was Rudr Gutgotia who beat Rahil Mansuriya 6-1, 6-2.
U-16 Boys Singles
In the opening day matches (pre-quarter final), Twijilang Debbarman of Tripura eased to Sudarshan Sharma of Manipur 6-0, 6-0 to set up quarter final date with Shanker Heisnam who got a bye; Aneesh V Udikeri of Karnataka beat Lanchenba Maibam 6-1, 6-0; Devarsh Sinhar of Gujarat beat K Yohenba of Manipur 6-0, 6-1 and Madhav Dixit of Karnataka beat Shaurya Kumar of Maharashtra 6-2, 6-4.
Later in the day, Rahil who got a pre-quarter final bye outlasted Annesh V Udikeri with a comeback 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win to book a semi-final berth.
U-18 Girls Singles
Avantika Gutgotia, Nistha Priya and Adrika Rajkumari progressed into the U-18 girls singles semi-finals today.
Avantika of Tamil Nadu secured the semi-final ticket with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win over Madhavi Mishra of Karnataka and will meet Nistha Priya of Assam who outlasted Manipur's Pooja Saikhom 6-0, 6-0 in another quarter final clash.
Adrika Rajkumari of Assam on the other hand sealed her semi-final slot with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Aarna Raj of Odisha.
U-16 Girls Singles
Avantika Gutgotia and Adrika Rajkumari also made it to the semi-finals of the U-16 girls singles competition.
Adrika registered a hardfought 6-3, 6-4 win over Nishtha Priya in an all-Assam quarter final clash while Avantak got a walkover win against Anjelica Saikhom.
Aarna Raj of Odisha also won 6-1, 6-1 over Guruaribam Abha Sharma of Manipur to set up a semi-final date with Adrika while Avantika will play Hirva Rangani of Gujarat who registered a 6-1, 6-4 quarter final win over Madhavi Mishra of Karnataka in the semi-final.
