16th Governor's Cup TaekwondoPTA amass 15 medals on Day 3 to intensify title campaign

IMPHAL, May 14 : PTA ramped up their title campaign in the 16th Governor's Cup Taekwondo Championship being underway at Indoor Stadium Khuman Lampak by amassing as many as 15 medals including 5 gold and 4 silver on Day 3 of the championship. With today's medal, PTA now top the medal tally with 17 gold, 7 silver and 13 bronze medals.
It may be noted that around 630 athletes from 25 units across the State are participating in the championship being organised by the All Manipur Taekwondo Association.
In the last day action for sub-junior boys, PTA bagged two gold medals and three bronze medals as Ph Dikash claimed the 23 kg title beating Shyam Chourajit of LTA in the final and L Diamond won the 35 kg category gold beating LTA's Kh Wanglen.
Marjing's L Hemba in the meantime won the 38 kg category as he beat K Alex Singh of SAI-RC in the final. Semi-finalists K Kangleinganba of PTA and Kh Rojit of TTA on the other hand settled for the bronze medals.
In the Sub-Junior girls competition, PTA's Gunjan Kakati of PTA won 20 kg category gold as her compatriot Ph Taniya sealed the 32 kg category gold medal beating Th Tombisana of UTA in the final.
The 35 kg category gold in the meantime went to Mary Karlo of IMRTA who beat Elangbam Nancy of TTA in the final.
In the cadet boys competition, K Punshiba grabbed the 41 kg category gold, overcoming Kh Thouna of PTA as Maximus Thongbam of KTA and Elangbam Summerson won the bronze medals.
Bidyananda Ph then extended PTA's medal haul by winning the cadet boys 61 kg category gold medal after overcoming his compatriot Seram Priyokumar in the final. UTA's Sinam Diamond and Kh Rohit of Sekmai who made it up to the semis had to settle for the bronze medals.
Marjing also grabbed another gold medal via Khaidem Borish who beat PTA's Lourembam Newzealand in the 65 kg final.
In the cadet girls competition, NSA's T Bheigyashree won the 37 kg category gold beating Anamika Chhelby of ITA in the final as Rehana Nongmaithem and N Thoibi Chanu both of UTA finished with the bronze medal.
Irengbam Chingkheinganbi in the meantime bagged UTA a gold medal in the 55 kg event as she overcame Marjing's L Yaiphalembi in the final Laishram Priya of Real clinched the 59 kg category gold beating Longjam Helena of CTI.
The day also saw Kh Robert of SAIRC win the 51 kg category gold for junior boys beating S Rikison in the final as Ch Lenin claimed the 73 kg class gold for Marjing by beating N Joykishan of Thoubal.
In the junior girls' competition, Manda Yaikhom won NSA the 46 kg category gold beating Jenny Limbu of Kangla before M Dolly Chanu of HTA bagged the 63 kg category gold beating NSA's Haobijam Maheshori.
UTA in the meantime grabbed both two gold medals in the senior men's clashes as Moirangthem Sanahal beat his compatriot L Yaiphaba for the 63 kg crown and Ranbir Moirangthem beat Jetlee Chabungbam of PTA for the 74 kg category title.
In the senior women's 53 kg final, Angom Uttarani of SAIRC beat Akoijam Devika of UTA to win a gold medal as Priyanka Leitanthem of UTA grabbed the 62 kg category gold.
