IMPHAL, May 18 : Betuk, Thamlapokpi progressed into the last 16 stage of the 56th All Lamkang Sports Meet men's football as Haika Khuwbul booked the quarter final berth today at Angkhel Chayang ground.
In the fourth match of the tournament, Betuk Kvaarkhu edged out Komsen 5-1 courtesy a double from Joseph (36', 75') and singles from Bormi and Ashok. It was Bormi who netted the first goal for Betuk before Joseph doubled the advantage and LV Kojoy of Komsen conceded an own goal in the 38th minute.
Having trailed the first half 0-3, Komsen pulled back a goal via SK Kobok in the 43rd minute but Joseph completed his double in the 75th minute before Ashok struck home the decisive goal in the 78th minute.
Betuk will now play Sektaikarong in the last 16 stage on May 21.
In the tourney's fifth encounter, Thamlapokpi crushed Lamkang Khunou 7-1as SK Darpol and SK Khumson hit braces.
Thamlapokpi side went up 3-0 before the break as Th Poalin found the opener in the 10th minute before SK Darpol scored two goals back to back in the 18th and the 28th minutes.
JV Mate helped Kamkang Khunou pull back a goal in the 45th minute but failed to contained the marauding Thamlapokpi forwards in the latter stage of the game and conceded 5 goals to go down 1-7 as Th Rereingshel (50') and JV Raingam (53') added a goal each before SK Khumson netted two goals back to back in the 63rd and the 79th minutes.
The Thamlapokpi team will now face either Lungkharlon or Riindamkhuw, RSC in the pre-quarter final on May 21.
In a last 16 round clash staged later in the day, Haika Khuwbul beat DASCO 5-4 on penalties after 3-3 draw in the regulation time of the edge of the seat contest.
D Rengshingam earned Haika Khuwbul the lead early in the 8th minute only to be equalised two minutes later by SN Calvin.
After the break, Th Rengdon (55') and D Robert (67') scored to give Haika Khuwbul a comfortable 2-goal lead but SN Angwar (72') and SN Bungdam (79') came to the rescue for DASCO to force the game to be decided by penalty shoot-out.
In the shoot-out, Th Rengtun, SK Morningson, SK Bungpem, Th Rengdon and SK Kamningwar found the back of the net for Haika Khuwbul to ensure an 8-7 (aggregate) win while only SN Calvin, SN Bungdam, SN Angwar and SN Bungmarsing found the target for DASCO.
Haika Khuwbul will play either Challong or Thalakhuren in the last 8 stage on May 23.
