Khelo India University Games medallists accorded warm reception

Medal winning athletes and officials of Manipur University contingent at the 2nd Khelo India University Games were accorded a warm reception today in the presence of Manipur University VC, Prof N Lokendra Singh at the committee room of the varsity at 2 pm.
Manipur University bagged a total of 4 medals, 2 gold and 2 silver at the games hosted by Jain University, Bengaluru from April 24 to May 3 to finish 37th among the 142 medal winning universities, said Department of Sports, Manipur University in a release.
Linthoi Haobam won an individual gold medal in the epee event (fencing) at the games as foil team (fencing) comprising Ph Anita Chanu (Biramangol College), Khus-boorani Laishram (Bira- mangol College), N Mina Devi (KP College) and G Priyaluxmi Devi (Oriental College) won the other gold medal.
Ph Anita Chanu also fetched a bronze medal in the individual foil event for Manipur University while H Bhumeshwory of Biramangol College bagged a bronze medal in the 1500 m race (athletics).
The University contingent led by Dr Kh Joychandra Singh, Asso Prof, Manipur College, the release said while adding that a total of 187 member universities of the Association of Indian Universities participated in the games. MU Registrar, Prof W Chandrababu Singh; Finance Officer (i/c), Prof N Rajmani Singha and Asst Director of Sports, Dr Ch Pradeep also attended the programme, the release said.
MU VC, on behalf of the university, congratulated and thanked the players and officials on their achievement and for bringing laurels to the university besides presenting certificates to the players, the release added. As enumerated in the release, the athletes winning gold, silver and bronze medals in individual event will be receiving cash award of Rs 15,000; Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively while for team event gold medallists will be receiving Rs 10,000 each; Rs 7,000 each for silver medallists and Rs 5,000 each for bronze medallists.
