IMPHAL, May 20 : Utlou High School and TG English School emerged U-14 boys and U-17 boys winners in the 61st District Level Subroto Mukerjee Football Tournament organised by District Youth Affairs and Sports Office, Bishnupur at Bishnupur Mini Stadium.
Utlou High School won the top honour of the U-14 boys competition and booked the State level championship berth beating TG English School 1-0 in the final match today.
The lone goal that helped Utlou High School seal the title was scored by P Raza in the 12th minute.
TG English School, Bishnupur toiled hard to pull level in the remainder of the game but the Utlou school team managed to hold on to their lead till the final whistle with exemplary defending performances.
Meanwhile the U-17 boys competition was a cagey affair as TG English School and Keinou High School played out a 1-1 draw till the break before TG English School sealed the game 3-2 despite conceding an own goal.
L David of Keinou High School drew first blood finding the target in the 11th minute only to be equalised by N Abungton the very next minute. K Langanglung however helped TG English School turn things around in the 32nd minute before Suraj Wangkhem gave the team a two goal cushion with a clinical finish in the 39th minute.
Keinou HS also rallied back in the latter part of the game to cut the gap and luckily the deficit was reduced with Th Naresh conceding an own goal in the 44th minute.
TG Eng School however ramped up the defence to keep things under control and kept further threats at bay to win 3-2 and qualified for the State level competition from the district.
