IMPHAL, May 22: The road connecting Thangmeiband Lilasing Khongnangkhong to Uripok-Kangchup road through Langol Thongak Lairembi, Langol Games Village and Iroisemba is likely to be expanded.
This road has been already named in the list of 79 roads selected by the State Government for expansion.
Sources informed that the length of the road from Lilasing Khongnangkhong to Iroisemba is 12.50 Kms.
The existing breadth (ride of way) of the road from Lilasing Khongnangkhong to Langol Thongak Lairembi is 7 metres.
The same road is 5 metres wide from Langol Thongak Lairembi to Langol Games Village. The ride of way is again 7 metres from Langol Games Village to Iroisemba.
The width of carriage way from Lilasing Khongnangkhong to Langol Thongak Lairembi is 5.50 metres. It is 3.75 metres between Langol Thongak Lairembi and Langol Games Village.
The width of carriage way from Langol Games Village to Iroisemba is 5.50 metres.
Expansion of the road from its existing breadth to the status of a double-lane road would entail acquisition of land, said the sources.
As the road would be connected with Uripok-Kangchup Road at Iroisemba, expansion of the same road would facilitate movement of people to Iroisemba Zoological Garden, Langol Games Village, Langol Housing Complex, Shija Hospital and different Government offices located at Lamphelpat.
At the same time, the road would also help in reducing traffic congestion at Imphal city, said the sources.
The other roads listed for expansion include Wabagai Lamkhai-Sugnu Road (27 Kms), Imphal-Kongba Keithel Road (4.60 Kms), Imphal-Pangei Road (10 Kms), Checkon Road (1.20 Km) and Dingku Road (1.50 Km).
