The Department of Commerce of Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram organized a tree plantation program today at the College premises to mark the observance of World Environment Day.
The students of the Commerce Department planted a sapling each under the guidance of Athili, Sr Sweta CCV, Shyamsundar Luwang, Hriiyo Kape and Justine.
The saplings were provided by the District Forest Officer John Sha.
The gathering was addressed by Dr (Fr) KO Sebastian, principal of the College.
He stated that the college was looking to grow their plantation and other social service initiatives. He complimented all of the students and staff members who assembled for this environmental cause and encouraged each of them to continue their good work throughout their lives.
Fr Shilanand, vice-principal, also addressed the gathering highlighting the importance of not only planting but also taking care of the saplings they are planting.
Sr Cecilia Thaimei provided the necessary tools and equipment for planting the saplings.
The main goal of the plantation drive was to raise awareness and promote a sustainable and safer environment by instilling a love for nature among the youth and encouraging them to take initiative and work together as a community towards a greener and cleaner Maram. The day was celebrated with considerable zeal.  The enthusiastic students began planting the seedling they had been given, and then everyone swore an oath to care for and protect the saplings they were planting.
Each of them gave their plants names and took photographs with their seedlings, which they planted.
