Foundation stone laid for United Committee Manipur's new building

IMPHAL, May 23; A foundation stone laying ceremony of a new building of United Committee Manipur (UCM) was held at its office complex at Lamphel today.
The foundation stone was laid by UCM president, Joychandra Konthoujam in the presence of UCM Vice-president, Yengkokpam Dhiren, Secretary General, Ngangom Deba Meetei, Secretary Organisation, Shanta Nahakpam, Secretary Finance , Nongmaithem Jiban, Secretary IPR ,Leisemba Lamaba and Secretary Women Affairs, RK Radhesana Devi.
Speaking at the occasion, Joychandra Konthoujam said that the building which is to be constructed is for the people of Manipur and appealed all to extend best possible support for the construction of the building.
The list of the donors' names will be made public, he added.
Recalling that UCM came into existence after the people's protest against the ceasefire agreement between Indian Government and NSCN-IM at Bangkok in 2001 which included the clause of ceasefire without territorial limit, he said that during the course of the struggle, many lost their lives and many were injured.
He further stated that the foundation stone of the new building is being laid since the existing building is not as per the present standard.
Informing that the new building will be dedicated to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect the unity and integrity of Manipur, he said that the new building will be a multi-purpose one which can be used by all sections of communities.
Lastly he asserted that UCM will continue to fight against any form of threats to Manipur's unity and integrity and will work in the interest of the people.
