A one day seminar on 'International Day for Biological Diversity' was held at United College, Lambung in Chandel district today.
Speaking as the resource person, Dr Seram Raghumani Singh, Associate Professor, Dept of Botany of the College, spoke on the theme 'Building a shared future for all life' for the special event of International Day for Biodiversity, said a press release by the Principal of the college.
He highlighted some of the reasons why Manipur is known for its Dzuko and Shirui lilies.
He went on to state that 'valuable species are disappearing in such a way that it concerns us that we are paving the way by losing habitat'.
Stating that the loss of species in this manner ensures the extinction of certain therapeutic plants from Manipur's soil, he said that plants, animals, and other living organisms are necessary components for the successful operation of the ecosystems.
Dr Bd Thumdal, the Principal of this College, presided over the seminar which was attended by students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the college, added the press release.
