Public hearing on social impact assessment of acquisition for land of Imphal Ring Road held

IMPHAL, May 24: A public hearing on social impact assessment for acquisition of land for construction of Imphal Ring Road within Imphal West district was held today at Tharon Community hall in Thangmeiband AC.
The public hearing was organised by the State Social Impact Assessment (SIA) Unit, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur for residents of Thangmeiband, Meitei Langol and Takyel Khongbal.
Joint Director, Directorate of Environment and officer in-charge, Dr T Brajakumar, Social activist BB Sharma, Technical Expert, O Biren, Academician, Professor E Bijoy, Survey Expert, Md Abdul Salam and former corporator of IMC Ward no 1, Gaidon Gangmei attended the public hearing as the presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Tourangbam Brajakumar appealed to the gathering to report their grievances in connection with the Imphal Ring Road project by filling up the assessment report forms which will help in compiling the reports properly.
Further he requested the gathering to check the authenticity of their land records in their possession.
The residents who were present at the public hearing opposed the Imphal Ring Road project in their respective areas and called for relocation of the project.
Denouncing the project, residents of Tharon Khul stated that the whole village will be affected by the project posing threat to the villagers therefore they appealed to all authorities concerned to relocate the project to ensure that the village is protected.
