One day symposium on impacts of 'Hindi imposition' held

IMPHAL, May 25: A one day symposium on 'The probable impact on students and upcoming generation when Hindi is made a compulsory subject till Class 10' was held today at Manipur Press Club today.
Dr Hamom Nabachandra, former Secretary and Chairman of Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM), Naoroibam Khamba Luwang president of Patriotic Writer's Forum (PAWF) Manipur and Dr S Manaoton Singh, Educationist graced the symposium as presidium members which was organised by PAWF Manipur.
The symposium was moderated by Leihaothabam Saratchandra, veteran journalist and language activist where Dr Dhanabir Laishram, social scientist, Dr Naorem Sanatomba Singh, Assistant Professor, Manipuri Department, Manipur University, Dr Narengbam Rajivkumar Singh, Principal, IRE Group of Institution, Wangjing, SK Apanba, life member, PAWF, Manipur, Haobijam Chalamba Meitei, president AMSU Headquarters and Leishangthem Lamyanba Meitei, president DESAM Headquarters spoke as the resource persons.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Hamom Nabachandra said that it is important to enlighten the authorities concerned on the possible impact on students and upcoming generation if Hindi is made a compulsory subject till the 10th standard when the State is striving earnestly for the development of indigenous languages.
Addressing the gathering, Naoroibam Khamba Luwang stressed on the need of analysing the possible impacts of making Hindi mandatory till 10th standard.
Stating that the students will face many inconveniences if Hindi is made compulsory, he said that students and writers in particular undergo many problems when a language is imposed apart from the indigenous languages.
The symposium is held with an aim to urge the Government and authorities concerned to analyse the advantages and disadvantages of imposing Hindi as a compulsory subject till the 10th standard, he added.
