IMPHAL, May 24
The Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) has appealed to the authorities concerned to check the unreasonable price hike of essential commodities and take up immediate measures to resolve it in the interest of the people of the State.
PPCM in a press release has stated that various malpractices have been found in shops and market places across the State during the drive conducted by PPCM to check price hike of essential commodities and other anomalies.
Alleging that the dealers and shopkeepers are manipulating the masses for their personal gains violating the norms laid by the Government, PPCM said that it came across many anomalies such as products being sold at any price against the price fixed by the competent authorities, no maintenance of proper weight, selling products without cash memos, no price list in shops and non-payment of required taxes to the Government and so on.
Such practices have made it more burdensome for the masses especially the daily wage labourers to make ends meet, added the release.
While expressing concern on the difference of price of commodities in different shops and in the neighbouring States, PPCM has urged the authorities concerned to formulate policies to check such anomalies at the earliest.
PPCM further stated that it will continue to conduct similar drives in shops and market places in different places.
