TENGNOUPAL, May 24 : Kopham Maring, president of Laiching Action Committee has spoken out against objections placed on the inauguration of a market shed constructed at Khangsim Village and advised against any future opposition of this nature.
The statement was made by Kopham Maring during a press conference held at the community hall of Laiching Kangsang Khul in Tengnoupal district today.
Speaking to media persons, he alleged that Khangsim village was a part of Laiching Kangsang Khul as potters from the latter had set up Kangshim village as a place for pottery-making. He also claimed that they had records dating back to 1822, 1918 and 1960 from British administrators and the subsequent Manipuri Government that prove that Kangshim village belongs to Laiching Kangsang Khul.
He further mentioned that in 1972 a market place had been set up in the same spot and following the trend of progress and development, a new market shed had ben constructed and inaugurated yesterday.
However, some residents of Khangsim village objected to this and tore up the inaugural posters yesterday, he alleged.
As such, Kopham Maring advised against any similar acts in the future.
It may be noted that a stir had broken out yesterday between the two groups in connection with the market shed inauguration.
A few people from both groups had also sustained injuries.
As a result Tengnoupal DC Mannuamching, IAS, had henceforth imposed CrPC section 144 in the concerned area to avoid any unfortunate incidents between the two groups.
