MLA launches anti-tobacco drive

IMPHAL, May 25 : Thangmeiband AC MLA Khumukcham Joykisan has launched an oral cancer awareness programme cum anti-tobacco campaign which will be carried out throughout the Constituency, today.
The awareness programme cum anti-tobacco campaign is being organised by JB Health Care and Research Centre, Manipur  Cancer Research Forum and Thangmeiband  Kendra Development Organisation.
While addressing the launch function at Lalambung Makhong Takhellambam Leikai  today, Joykisan said that consuming tobacco increases the risk of cancer and as such 'we must stop consuming it.'
Saying that treatment for cancer is also very expensive which many people cannot afford, the MLA said that the disease is detected mostly in the last stage.
Lauding the organisers of the campaign for their initiative  to prevent and reduce tobacco use among the people in Thangmeiband AC, Joykisan assured to provide all possible assistance with TAKDO.
He appealed to all to understand the serious effect of tobacco consumption on health and live a healthy life.
MD of JB Health Care and Research Centre Dr Ranibala Yengkhom said that the same campaign has already been carried out at Chandel, Churachandpur and Keibul Lamjao.
Saying that preparation is underway to conduct the campaign in other parts of the State, she sought support from the State Government. Manipur Cancer Research Forum Chairman Dr Y Mohen and TAKDO president Khulembam Nobo also attended the event.
