Sagolshem Moramba and Thongam Neo will be representing India in the World Muaythai Championship organised by the International Federation of Muaythai Association (IFMA).
Moramba, son of S Dinachandra of Soibam Leikai and Neo of Th Joynanda of Singjamei will be leaving Imphal tomorrow for the said championship to be held in Abu Dhabi, said a release issued by the All Manipur Muaythai Lovers and Players Organisation.
The association noted that Sagolshem Moramba and Th Neo have made the State proud by bringing home gold medals from the National Muaythai Championship in the 67 kg and 71 kg category events respectively last year.
The International Federation of Muaythai Association has recently been recognised by the International Olympic Committee but the State association is yet to get Government recognition, it said.
Due to lack of association funds, State players have to bear their own participation expenses and rely on some assistance from sports enthusiasts, it said while expressing gratitude to all who have extended moral and financial support to the State players so far.
The association also drew the attention of the State Government to recognise the sports discipline at the earliest considering the plight of the players.
