Some words on Mother’s Day

Yesterday, social media was bombarded by selfies with mothers of all colours. Irrespective of how all behave with their mothers on the other 364 days, most seem to fake post the love they have for their mother in the urge to not go off-line of the trend. Of all, #motheriseverything was the most used hashtag in Manipur but sadly, the number of old age homes never stops increasing.
Before breaking into all these, let's understand first for why, how and when Mother's Day started. For the first time Mother's Day was celebrated in the early 1900s. In 1908, in the United States of America, Anna Jarvis wished to commemorate Mother's Day as a recognised holiday to honour her mother, Ann Reese Jarvis, a peace activist who had passed away three years prior. In 1914, US President Woodrow Wilson declared it a National holiday. While in India, Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May, it is marked on various days in different countries.
Keeping the history aside, growing up under the protection of a mother, under the love and care of a mother is a must experience feeling for everyone in the world. We don’t need a special day to honor our moms; instead, they should be treasured at all times of the year. However, how many of us do it - we often take them for granted and regard their love and devotion to be an obligation on their part towards us. And no one can take the place of a mother, who does everything from constantly checking on you to see whether you’ve eaten and being concerned about your weight to celebrating all of your accomplishments with tremendous fire and joy.
I hope some of you seriously took time out of your hectic schedule for this Mother’s Day to express your gratitude to your moms for the numerous sacrifices she has made for you - not just hashtags, the love and care she has shown you, and for all she has done, no matter how little or insignificant. While your actions are the most effective approach to capturing her heart, you may also use phrases and quotations to help you along the path.
But in the best of the turn, a mother is not just enclosed to have biological relation to be called a mother. Many have grown up not knowing their biological mother. But we always have know those who helped us grow. To those mothers who adopted your loved ones, thank you for your strength and to those running orphan homes who let many grow up without missing the absence of their biological mother, thank you. And to many of those who will be biological mothers in a few months, thank you.
Happy belated official Mother’s Day to all those taking the responsibility of raising someone.
