IMPHAL, Jun 29: Students and guardians of Samusang Santipur Upper Primary School staged a protest demonstration today against lack of infrastructure and shortage of teachers in the school.
The protest demonstration was carried out in association with the Co-ordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Educational Zone which has been conducting a campaign demanding for a disturbance free educational zone in the State since June 15.
The committee which has been formed by 15 organisations including Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has been carrying out various activities since the past few years urging the authorities concerned to address the issue of disturbance, threat and lack of infrastructure and manpower in the schools of the State to ensure that  students are able to study in free and peaceful environment.
During the protest demonstration carried out today at Samusang Santipur Upper Primary School, placards which read 'Provide Right to Education (RTE)', 'Stop politicising transfer and posting of teachers', 'Appoint required teachers', 'Provide proper infrastructure at educational institutions' etc were used.
One of the guardians while speaking at the sidelines of the protest expressed dismay that there are only 10 teachers in the whole school thereby causing inconveniences while conducting regular classes.
He also stated that the school is also facing many problems owing to lack of adequate infrastructure and appealed to the State Government to address the issue at the earliest in the interest of the students.
Secretary of education and academic affairs, DESAM, Thounaojam Somol Luwang also reacted against the lack of infrastructure and manpower in the school and termed it as really unfortunate for the students.
He also appealed to all to support the campaign of the co-ordinating committee.
