Transport Minister hands over bus to Pettigrew College, Ukhrul

Ukhrul, Jun 29 : Transport Minister Khashim Vashum on Wednesday handed over a Manipur State Transport (MST) bus to Pettigrew College, Ukhrul.
Speaking on the occasion, Khashim stated that the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh has been constantly working to develop educational institutions of both the valley and hills to reduce the financial burden of parents and impart quality education to the students.
"Upgradation of Pettigrew College to University is in State Government's priority programme", said Khashim while adding that the ongoing constructions of Pettigrew College Academic Block and other infrastructures is to achieve the criterion for the upgrade to University.
He also urged the College Authority to monitor the building construction properly to maintain work quality.
Earlier, the Transport Minister handed over the bus to Peter Horam, vice principal of Pettigrew College. As a token of encouragement and support to the students community, he also provided monetary assistance of Rs 25,000 for bus fuel expenditure.
It may be mentioned that Pettigrew College is the second oldest college in Manipur with more than 800 students enrolled in both Arts and Science stream.
The programme was attended by MLA Ram Muivah; Nivedita Lairenlakpam, Director Transport Department; Dr David Elangpam, Secretary Transport; Soreishang Kasar, principal Pettigrew College, Tuisem Kamkara, vice president TNL, college faculties and students.
