CME programme on 'Current trends on Stem cells and Regenerative Medicine' held

IMPHAL, Jun 30: A Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on the topic 'Current trends on Stem cells and Regenerative Medicine' was held at Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), Langol today.
The CME programme was organised by Biochemistry Department, SAHS.
Managing Director of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI), Dr Kh Palin, Director of SAHS, Dr Maisnam Amuba and General Surgeon of SHRI, Dr Jugindro Sorokhaibam graced the programme as the presidium members. Speaking at the occasion, Dr Amuba said Stem Cell Therapy helps in the regeneration of the affected organs of the human body and is more cost effective as compared with organ transplantation which is highly expensive and a complex form of treatment.
Stating that there is no facility of Stem cells and Regenerative Medicine in the entire Northeastern States, Dr Amuba said that the CME programme has been organised to raise awareness about this particular field of medicine among the people of the State who do not have adequate knowledge about it.
Considering the multiple benefits of this field of medicine, he also expressed the desire of opening a research and training centre of Stem cell therapy in Northeast India and of organising regular workshops on Stem cell techniques and so on.
