Keny Devi bags Sanatomba award

IMPHAL, Jun 30 : The 29th death anniversary of RK Sanatomba, Editor Kangla Lanpung was observed today at Konung Hijagang Community Hall, Thangapat along with conferring of RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award 2022 to reporter Phurailatpam Keny Devi of the Imphal Free Press.
The function organised by RK Sanatomba Memorial Trust was attended by Mangi Shija, mother of RK Sanatomba and A Brajakumar Sharma as chief guest and president respectively.
During the ceremony Kangla Lanpung XIV Issue 1 was also released and Dr Nanaocha Sharma, scientist, IBSD delivered the RK Sanatomba Memorial Lecture on 'Bio-economy from bio-resources with reference to Manipur'.
Speaking on the occasion, Ningthouja Lancha, filmmaker,  lauded RK Sanatomba  saying that he was a radical journalist who was interested in societal issues.
On June 30, 1993, RK Sanatomba was killed following some disagreement with an underground outfit, he added.
He said that the annual RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award was conferred to journalists with the goal of encouraging them to cover burning social issues and inform the public, following the footsteps of the late Editor.
 RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award 2022 recipient Phurailatpam Keny Devi also addressed the gathering and said that the duty of a journalist is to inform the public about current events.
She expressed happiness that many women are venturing into the field of journalism and going on to become professional reporters.
It may be noted that Phurailatpam Keny Devi was conferred RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award 2022 for her excellent coverage of drug related issues in the State.
