IMPHAL, Jun 30: Family members of suspended Sub Inspector Thokchom Jitendro and late Arambam Nanao were engaged in a heated argument for a brief period at Cheirap Court complex today.
Family members of both the parties were present during the hearing of a bail application filed by suspended Sub Inspector Thokchom Jitendro Singh (41) s/o (L) Th Gopal Singh of Heinoukhongnembi Thokchom Leikai.
As Jitendro’s Counsel prayed for releasing him on bail, the APP raised a strong objection.
Jitendro is presently lodged in judicial custody in connection with the custodial death of Arambam Nanao on May 2.
The APP said that the accused might hamper the investigation of the case if he is released on bail at the present stage.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the both parties, fixed July 12 for further hearing of the bail application after receiving forensic report from Central Forensic science Laboratory.
After the hearing, family members of both the accused and the deceased were seen exchanging strong words leading to a minor scuffle.
Nonetheless, police personnel present in the Court complex intervened promptly and brought the situation under control and both the parties were forced to leave the Court complex.
Thokchom Jitendro is presently lodged in Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa following the death of Arambam Nanao on May 2.
