Auto driver dies in suspicious manner; JAC demands arrest of perpetrators within 48 hours

IMPHAL, Jul 2: An auto driver was found dead in a suspicious manner in  a rented accommodation yesterday morning at Khergao Awang  Leikai under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district .
The deceased has been identified as Md Rahaman (54 yrs) s/o (L) Abdul of Khergao Awang Leikai.
Regarding the incident, Porompat Police Station has filed an FIR and the dead body has been kept at JNIMS morgue for postmortem.
As per the statement of the family members of Md Rahaman, three unknown persons came yesterday morning to meet him at the rented accommodation where he has been staying with his family.
When Rahaman was talking with the three persons, his wife Sanahan was at the kitchen making tea, After some Sanahan heard a loud noise of pulling chairs and accordingly she went out to check on them.
When she came out, she found that her husband was lying unconscious on the floor while the three persons were standing at the doorstep.
Seeing the condition of her husband, Sanahan warned the three persons that they will be held responsible if something  happens to Rahaman, however they fled the scene.
Later when the family took him to the hospital, he died on the way.
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed in connection with the suspicious death of Md Rahaman and a sit-in protest was staged today at Khergao Awang Leikai by the locals.
While speaking at the sidelines of the protest, convenor of JAC, N Mani demanded the arrest of the persons involved in the death of Rahaman within 48 hours.
He also demanded for a magisterial enquiry and the speedy submission of the report to the Court.
Stating that the dead body of Rahaman will not be claimed until the perpetrators are arrested, he said that the JAC will stage stringent protests in association with the public if the perpetrators are not arrested within the set time frame.
Meanwhile, protesting against the unnatural death of Rahaman, Emoinu Diesel Auto Owners' Co-operative Limited Society and its affiliate passenger auto drivers have stopped passenger auto service starting from today.
It may be noted that Rahaman was the president of Emoinu Diesel Auto Owners' Co-operative Limited Society.
