Bamboo training centre inaugurated

IMPHAL, Jul 2 : Giving a push to bamboo and cane production as well as promoting their vast potential, MLA of Ukhrul Assembly Constituency Ram Muivah today inaugurated a Cane and Bamboo Training-cum-Production Centre at VVD Complex at Hungpung.
Professor Shailendra Chaudhuri, Managing Director of North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council and R Lalrodingi Adviser (banking, Industries and Tourism), NEC, Ministry of DoNER Shillong and other dignitaries were present as well.
To be funded by the North Eastern Council, the cost of the project is pegged at Rs 10.30 crore and is implemented by North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council under NEC.
The objective of the Centre is to motivate and promote the communities, SHGs, farmers, field functionaries, artisans and entrepreneurs and also to provide interactive coupling between technology, economy, environment and society for speedy development of cane and bamboo processing industries.
The project was initially conceived and conceptualised by Ram Muivah and his team of officers at NEC during his tenure as Secretary of NEC and Chairman of NECBDC (then CBTC).
