IMPHAL, Jul 2: President of Indigenous People’s Forum, Manipur  (IPFM) Ashang Kasar has said that the forum will draft a series of suggestions shortly to foster economic independence among the indigenous people and protect the land of the State.
IPFM released a report which highlights the activities of the forum at Manipur Press Club today.
At the function, Ashang Kasar continued that the contents  of the proposals would be drafted shortly and would be submitted to the State Assembly for consideration.
He maintained that a large portion of land in hill areas are still unutilised despite having the potential to develop it as an agricultural and industrial zone.
Stating that economic liberty covers many aspects and it is interrelated with social and political freedom, Ashang Kasar said that the State, however, is unlikely to move ahead if there is mistrust among the indigenous people.
He further stated political division is a major hindrance to the development of the State.
Claiming that there are only a handful of politicians in Manipur who work in the interest of the people, he added  that IPFM will strive to reform the economy of Manipur by engaging the indigenous people in several agricultural activities.
