Week-long farmers training programme concludes at Chingjaroi

Ukhrul Jul 2 : The week-long farmers training programme organised by Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS) on the theme, "Plant protection and on-farm bio inputs preparation" concluded today at community hall, Chingjaroi CV village, Ukhrul.
Over 2500 beneficiaries were registered in 5 FPCs under MOVCONER for Phase-III during the programme conducted with the support of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA), Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Solomon Yamro, district coordinator DSSS deliberated on ways to increase crop yield and control pests without using chemicals.
He stated that 55 villages were divided into 5 Farmers Producer Company (FPC) Ltd for cultivation of 6 different crops for large scale production.
"DSSS has been organising farmers training for all FPCs at their respective village since June 26, first at Tashar village for Semka FPC that cultivates black rice, followed by Horam FPC of Paorei (Kiwi & Turmeric), Sivathei FPC of Talui village (King chilli & Ginger), Ringrum FPC of Chingjaroi village (Maize) and Ihao FPC of Phungyar, Kamjong (Ginger & Turmeric) in a phase manner engaging experts from KVK  to achieve target of Mission Organic", he added.
Dr David Kamei, KVK Senapati; Homen Singh, Farm Manager KVK and Ramsem, SMS, KVK Ukhrul also educated the farmers on modern techniques of farming.
A demonstration on making a compost pit and preparation of bio organic fertilizers & pesticides by combining 15 different herbs known as "Khawori" was also displayed during the training programme.
