IMPHAL, Jan 29 : Ganga Waikhom struck five wickets to restrict Uttar Pradesh (UP) under 200 total but her effort went in vain as Manipur suffered a 113 run loss in the penultimate Group E match of the Senior Women's One Day Trophy 2022-23 at Infipro Sports Ground, Vadodara today.
Manipur were toss winners today and chose to field first. Sent in to bat first, UP posted a lowly total of 187 runs for 9 but Manipur faltered in the chase and slumped at just 74 runs to end the 7-team group campaign of the List-A tournament without earning a point.
UP had an unexpected start and were reduced to 43 for 5 with Waikhom Ganga claiming all the five wickets. Ganga bowled out Varnika for 5 for the first wicket and set up Tanu Kala catch on duck in the 1st and the 3rd delivery of the third over. Ganga then trapped Arushi lbw for 4 runs, bowled out UP skipper Muskan Malik for 23 runs and set up Tripti Singh catch for 5 runs to complete her haul of 5 wickets.
Chingkhei M then removed Rashi Kanojia for 14 to further reduce UP to 72 for 6 in 26.2 overs.
From 72 for 6, Sonali Singh (43 off 91 balls) and Nishu Choudhary (52 off 51 balls) forged an 86-run seventh wicket partnership off 100 deliveries to give their team some hope.
With Sonali Singh getting run out and Monika removing Nishu, the run flow slowed down and the innings eventually ended at 187 for 9 with Shilpi Yadav (2) and Tanu Singh (1) remaining not out.
In reply, Manipur batters fell in quick succession and eventually succumbed at 74 runs in 39.4 overs. The State eves never looked in contention as Tanu Singh (3/29 in 9 overs), Nishu Choudhary (3/6 in 6.3 overs) and Shilpi Yadav (2/19 in 7 overs) sliced through the line up with their fierce bowling performances.
Linthoingambi RK was the highest run getter for Manipur as she added an unbeaten 29 followed by Milan Y (15) and Kalpana (10).
