Sport Minister opens 1st Winter Games, announces Rs 50 crore for sports development in Ukl

Ukhrul, Jan 30 : Minister for Sports and PWD Govindas Konthoujam on Monday inaugurated the 1st Winter Games - 2023 for Ukhrul and Kamjong districts at Ukhrul district headquarters.
Declaring the 6-day games opened at Wino Ground, Sports Minister Govindas also announced a package of Rs 50 crore for sport grounds and infrastructural developments in Ukhrul district.
Over  700 sportsmen from the two districts will be competing in an array of team and individual disciplines viz- Football (Men's), Volleyball (Men and Women's), Basketball ( Men's and Women's), Kho-Kho (Men's and Women's), Badminton (Single - Junior Boys and Girls, Men's and Women's), Boxing (Sub Junior and Junior for Boys and Girls),  Shooting Air Rifles 10m (Junior Boy's and Girls, Men's and Women's), Archery (Junior Boys and Girls) Judo (Sub Junior and Junior Boys and Girls),  Table Tennis (Single Men's and Women's),  Taekwondo (Sub Junior and Junior Boys and Girls) and Athletics in the 6 days winter Games.
Events under athletics are Javelin Throw, Shot Put, Discus Throw, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Race (100m and 200m) and Relay (4x100m and 4x400m) for Men's and Women's.
Announcing to construct a badminton hall for Ukhrul District Badminton Association at the estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh, he also mentioned that the Ministry is keen to promote volleyball and basketball in Ukhrul and Senapati districts. The event is jointly organised by Ukhrul and Kamjong District Olympic Associations.
