The abandoned swallow’s nest

Once again I stare at it
 The abandoned Swallow’s nest
A woven cradle, finely spun
Twigs and leaves artfully arrayed
An intricate architecture it is

I still remember the day so clear
When two swallow birds with zest
Labored tirelessly with purpose and artistry
Building the nest, a home for them
Their unity in work was a sight to behold

Swift Swallows, migrants of the summer
Their wings cutting through the boundless blue
In endless quest, tirelessly they roam
Humming the song of joy and freedom
In their every dive and graceful glide

A wondrous sight, it was to watch
Them taking flights in the endless sky
In no time, I beheld tiny beaks
Peeking out of the nest with hungry cries
Innocent eyes with feathers damp and new

On becoming parents, the two Swallow birds
Took flights scanning the ground with practiced ease
Never returned without an insect or morsel
With each shared meal, the nestlings grew
A scene of love, a timeless grace it was

As life is a fleeting, temporary grace
Before long the fledglings spread their wings
With their feathers kissed by the sun, they flew away
Abandoning the nest, now cold and gray
But a symbol of love that once did thrive

Once again I stare at it
The abandoned Swallow’s nest
Its emptiness telling me again and again
New life will come to fill it once more
And  life will continue only in nature’s rhythm
