Senapati, Nov 22: 1st District Level Junior Indigenous Wrestling Championship commenced today at Astro Turf Ground, Senapati. The event is being organised by the Senapati District Wrestling Association, Manipur (SDWAM) in collaboration with the Red Shield Division of the Indian Army.
Before the formal opening of the championship, the vice president of SDWAM said that the event is organised with an aim to promote the indigenous game as well as to encourage the youth of the area to organise the championship.
Senapati district is the only hill district which has shown much interest in indigenous games, said SDWAM vice president while adding that the association is planning to continue the event in the coming years as well. The vice president of SDWAM also sought cooperation from all sections of the society to promote indigenous games and urged all players to give their best during the championship while maintaining game spirit.
115 wrestlers of 20 years and below are taking part in the championship which will run till November 24. High ranking officials from the Indian army and civil administration are expected to grace the valedictory function on November 24.
