International Day of Persons With Disabilities 2023 observed across State

JIRI/SPI/THB, Dec 3: As observed across the globe, the International Day of Persons With Disabilities 2023 was celebrated in many districts of the State today under the theme “United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities”.
JIRIBAM
At Jiribam, the day was observed at Institute for Children with Disabilities (ICD), Lakhipur today. The event was jointly organised by Achievement of Rising Maiden (ARM), Zonal Education Officer, Jiribam and District Social Welfare Officer, Jiribam.
Notable personalities such as Md Achab Uddin, MLA Jiribam Assembly Constituency; Krishna Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Jiribam and Dr Elangbam Okendro Singh, Medical  Superintendent (MS), District Hospital graced the observation ceremony as the chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.    
As a part of the function, differently abled children demonstrated their individual talent and skills in the form of song, dance performances etc. This was accompanied by prize distribution of ARM's annual sports programme.
In addition, ARM also presented simple gifts to the children with disabilities as a mark of encouragement.  
Moreover, under the supervision of Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur, District Election Officer Jiribam carried out SVEEP Campaign as a part of today's function and an "election quiz" was also hosted.
Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Kumar Deputy Commissioner Jiribam lauded the children for their performance.
As per Article 21 of the Indian constitution, all human beings are enshrined with the right to life or personal liberty, which shows that all human beings have the same basic rights, he added.
SENAPATI
Similarly, Jan Vikas Samiti, Varanasi in collaboration with Innocent Smile School, Senapati District Disable People’s Association, Manipur (SDPAM), Senapati Karong Area Baptist Union (SKABU) and District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) observed IDPS 2023 at Zeliangrong Baptist Church, Senapati today.
T Peter Rangnamei, Director, MANEDA; Rev K Daniel, President, SKABU; Rev Paul Inpui, Pastor, Namthan Baptist Church and L Daikho Chisiiote, President SDPAM graced the ceremony.
On the occasion, many persons with disabilities also presented heart touching songs before the audience.
THOUBAL
Separately, District Social Welfare Office Thoubal in collaboration with Regional Institute of Handicapped Persons (RIHP) Yairipok and District Disabilities Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) Thoubal observed international Day of Persons With Disabilities at RIPH auditorium located at Yairipok Bamol Leikai.  
 The event was graced by  Keisham Meghachandra, MLA Wangkhem Assembly Constituency and MPCC president as the chief guest; Dr Maibam Rajendra, Joint Director Veterinary as the functional president and K Nongpoknganba Salaicha, District Social Welfare Officer Thoubal; Kh Sobha, nominee member, Wangkhem Zilla Parishad and S Kumar, nominee Pradhan, Leirongthel-Ningel Gram Panchayat as the guests of honour.      
On the occasion, Keisham Meghachandra urged people to stop viewing the differently abled people through a "different" lens. Instead he appealed to people to offer encouragement and support to this community.
Differently abled persons from Thoubal, Imphal East and Kakching attended the event.
As a part of the observance ceremony, the organisers presented the simple gifts to the persons with disabilities gathered.
Meanwhile RIHP and Program Centre For Women Development Thoubal presented various cultural dances to the delight of the audience.
