Drug pushers held with heroin

IMPHAL, Feb 1 :  Superintendent of Police of Kangpokpi Th Vikramjit has said that two drug peddlers were arrested along with 640 grams of heroin from Thingbongjang village on January 30 last and they are in  police custody.
The arrested persons have been identified as Salam Deven Singh (38), s/o S Tomba Singh of Keibul Lamjao Forest Mamang, Bishnupur and Ningombam Cherish (28) s/o Ibohan of Bashikhong Mamang Leikai, Imphal East.
As per earlier estimation, 640 grams of heroin would fetch around Rs 1.2 crore in the international market.
Speaking to the media at the conference hall of Kangpokpi SP today, Th Vikramjit said that the heroin was brought in a truck bearing Nagaland registration number coming from Imphal towards Kangpokpi side.
Saying that the truck was detained by the district police near Thingbongjang village market shed (Corona Bazar) under Gamnom Saparmeina police station on January 30, the SP continued that the presence of heroin in the truck was revealed by the driver himself.
Saying that the police guarded the truck the whole night on January 30 since the Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses were not present, Th Vikramjit maintained that the truck was searched thoroughly yesterday morning and 54 soap cases of heroin weighing around 640 grams were detected at the wooden speaker and driver cabin of the truck.
The SP went on to state that the driver and the handyman of  the truck were arrested on spot along with the heroin and  a case has been registered against them under ND&PS Act by Gamnom Saparmeina police station. They also have been remanded to police custody till February 9.
