IMPHAL, Feb 1 : The Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) has appealed to the State Government to take up intensive measures to trace the whereabouts of VDF personnel Ningombam Premananda Singh (37), who has been missing since January 16.
As per a statement issued by CADA, the VDF personnel who hails from Thoubal Okram Maning Leikai went missing while on duty to destroy poppy plantations at Urantop Hill, Chandel.
Expressing shock at the lack of progress made in this missing persons case, CADA also denounced the State Government's silence on the matter and called for concerted efforts to find the whereabouts of Ningombam Premananda Singh.
The statement also maintained that the disappearance of the VDF personnel could have an adverse effect on the morale of other police personnel involved in the poppy destruction drive. In turn, this could impede the Government's effort to cull poppy cultivation. As such, the State administration should take this missing persons case very seriously, CADA asserted.
CADA also questioned if certain armed groups are involved in poppy cultivation and demanded for the truth to be revealed to the public. Aside from this, it raised suspicions about the involvement of foreign 'drugs mafia' in this regard and consequently called for a more intense "War on Drugs" campaign.
