Two courses

NEW DELHI, Feb 19 : Students of Central universities can now pursue two courses concurrently as of the new academic year. The provision of two courses simultaneously from Central universities has been provided under the National Education Policy. Under this, students will have the choice between the regular course and one that is offered online (distance learning).
For it, the University Grants Commission has included a new clause. According to UGC Chairman Prof M Jagdish Kumar, graduate students will henceforth be required to complete an internship. On the basis of this internship, the students will develop their skills as per market expectations.
One can run an internship programme by collaborating with corporate organisations. Students of graduation and post graduation will have multiple choices of courses. More and more certificate courses and diploma courses have to be started so that students have more options.
Besides that, the students will have to work on community outreach after going to fields, and projects.
The Education Ministry has made it clear that the Common University Admission Exam (CUET) merit list would be used to determine admissions for undergraduate programmes at Central universities.
In addition to the 45 Central universities, it is expected that approximately 60 State and private colleges will also accept students for undergraduate programmes depending on their performance on the CUET. Central institutions around the country are attempting to promote Indian languages, according to the Education Ministry. Several universities have embraced the UGC's criteria in order to operate two academic programmes concurrently.
Professors of Practice are now being appointed by Central universities in a number of fields. Professor of Practice will refer to those individuals without a PhD whose primary vocation is not teaching. Yet, based on their professional experience, they may be chosen to instruct pupils.
The UGC has written a letter to Higher Education Institutions in respect of appointment of Professor of Practice. In the letter to Vice Chancellors of varsities and and Principals of colleges to make necessary changes in rules of their institutions for appointment of Professors of Practice the UGC asked for sharing the progress of work done in this direction on its official portals.
The directions for the appointment of a Professor of Practice have already been published.
