In the “biggest” drug haul in Assam, over 4 kg of heroin was seized in Karbi Anglong district and two people were arrested, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday.
PTI quoted the SP of Karbi Anglong as saying, “We suspect that the vehicle was coming from Manipur.”
A senior police officer said the value of the contraband in the international market is estimated to be over Rs 25 crore.
“In the biggest haul so far @karbianglongpol intercepted a truck coming from a neighbouring State at Khatkhati and seized 4.109 kg heroin with the help of Assam Police Dog Squad & C-20 CRPF,” Sarma tweeted.
“Two accused have been apprehended,” he added.
When contacted, Karbi Anglong SP Sanjib Kumar Saikia told PTI that the vehicle was intercepted on Sunday night after getting a tip-off. “We suspect that the vehicle was coming from Manipur. A dog squad from CID helped the sleuths find the heroin, which was found concealed inside the door panel of the driver seat,” Saikia said. PTI
