House pays tributes to 5 expired Members

IMPHAL, Feb 2: Members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly today paid tributes and made obituary references to five former Members and two former Secretaries.
The House observed silence for two minutes in honour of the departed souls of the former Members and the former Secretaries.
Members of the House paid fitting tributes to expired Members Moirangthem Ibohal (Sagolmang AC), Ibomcha Sapam (Wangjing-Tentha AC), Thounaojam Bira (Nambol AC), Elangbam Biramani (Hiyanglam AC),  Chandam Manihar (Khurai AC) and expired Secretaries IS Laishram and RK Chinglensana.
Chief Minister N Biren said that Moirangthem Ibohal aka MI, born on December 22, 1922, was a CPI leader who was elected to the second Manipur Territorial Assembly in 1969.
Following the chaos and turmoil created by bombing   of Imphal including Khurai Chingangbam Leikai during the Second World War on May 11, 1922, Moirangthem Ibohal joined the INA along with some of his friends.
He even received military training at Kolkata for three months, Biren said.
Moirangthem Ibohal was even jailed in Alipore, Kolkata for his association with Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, Biren said.
He also took active part in the people’s movement for Manipuri language and repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
The Chief Minister said that the demise of Moirangthem Ibohal and the four other former Members is a loss for the whole State.
He also conveyed solidarity to all the bereaved families.
Opposition leader Okram Ibobi hailed Moirangthem Ibohal as a man of integrity and principle.
He also condoled the demise of Ibomcha Sapam, Thounaojam Bira, Elangbam Biramani, IS Laishram and RK Chinglensana.
CAF&PD Minister L Susindro, Moirang AC Thongam Shanti, Wangjing-Tentha AC MLA T Brojen, Hiyanglam AC MLA Dr Radheshyam and Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwar also took part in making obituary references to the expired former Members and former Secretaries.
After Chief Minister N Biren tabled the third report of the Business Advisory Committee 2023, RD&PR Minister Y Khemchand tabled the Manipur Panchayati Raj (8th Amendment) Bill 2022 before the House.  
Later, the Speaker adjourned the House till 11 am tomorrow.
