IMPHAL, Feb 2 : The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has called for an end to dishonest and unfair practices during the Class X and Class XII examinations conducted by BOSEM and COHSEM respectively.
DESAM also called upon the State Government to enact a penal law to punish the perpetrators guilty of such practices.
This information was relayed by Somorjit Mayengbam, secretary, DESAM during a press conference held today at DESAM office in Kwakeithel.
Addressing the media persons, he stated that DESAM has consistently made efforts to root out dishonest practices during Class X and XII examinations.
Despite these efforts, such underhanded practices continue to pose a problem during these exams, he said.
In order to solve this problem, DESAM submitted a complaint on the matter to the Manipur Human Rights Commission during the early part of 2020.
Following this, on March 11 of 2021, the Commission instructed the Education (S) Department to draft a law to put a stop to the unfair practices prevalent during examinations, he shared.
However, the Commission's instruction has remained largely ignored to this day, Somorjit Mayengbam rued.
He also maintained that many OCs of exam centres, AOs and ASOs might be involved in cases of unfair practices such as mass cheating/copying, insincere invigilators, leaking of question papers etc, but due to a slow investigation process and an absence of State law to penalise the cheats, such fraudulent practices continue undeterred.
As such, DESAM has appealed to the State Government to draft a penal law to put an end to unfair practices carried out during exams in time for the upcoming Class X and Class XII examinations.
