Outreach programme on EPF and MP Act, 1952 held

A one day ‘Outreach programme on Employees Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act (EPF and MP Act), 1952’ was held at the Examination Hall of Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Lamphel today.
During the programme, it was announced that immediate action shall be taken against the employer under the Act if they failed to deposit EPF contributions, said a press release by Regional PF Commissioner-1.
As a follow-up to the announcement, 234 defaulting establishments in Manipur were identified and notices have been issued to them as a precursor to prosecute the employers under section 14 of the Act which provides for imprisonment which may extend up to a period of 3 years.
Further, action will also be taken up against the employers of establishments which have 20 or more employees and are coming under the purview of the EPF & MP Act 1952 but are not registered with Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) and are nor depositing EPF dues.
All employers coming under the purview of the Act should immediately comply with the above norms and should note that deposit of EPF and allied dues is mandatory and not voluntary. There is no registration fee or any charges for allotment of EPF code number.
Eligible employees covered under the EPF & MP Act 1952 have the social security cover of  Provident Fund, Pension, and Insurance, added the release.
